V/Line Train and Coach Separation
The information displayed for regional trains and coaches across various PTV web pages and app screens is inconsistent, leading users to face unexpected navigation issues during their regional journeys. Previous research reveals a preference among V/Line users for the V/Line website and app over PTV for journey planning. With the predicted growth in regional areas of Victoria due to Covid relocations, there’s an opportunity to address this issue before demand rises. By conducting user interviews with design prototypes, we aim to understand if these changes will enhance the regional journey planning experience.
We initiated the process by analyzing the current state and reviewing recent research findings. The valuable insights acquired during this phase guided us in creating our research plan. Taking a holistic view of the regional network, we recognized that the challenge extends beyond just separating V/Line train and coach information. It became evident that we needed to address a series of other issues that regional customers encounter on a daily basis.
Across different PTV web pages and app screens, information shown for regional trains and regional coaches are inconsistent. This has caused users to unexpectedly encounter problems in navigation their regional journey. Previous research also indicates more V/Line users prefer using the V/Line website and app than PTV to plan their journey.
Given Covid relocation data predicts growth in the regional areas of Victoria, it presents an opportunity to understand the problem of this experience before demand increases. By conducting user interviews with design prototypes, we can find out if these changes will improve their regional journey planning.
I generated numerous iterations of concepts for each touchpoint and conducted user testing sessions specifically with regional customers. Based on the insights gathered from these tests, I refined and updated the designs to reach the final version.
